Singapore Biennale is committed to building new arts audiences and broadening arts participation. An art education & outreach programme for schools has been developed to accompany the Biennale with these aims in mind: Inspire, Instill and Engage through participation. SB2008 is also proud to partner Jet Airways to present Singapore's first Kids Biennale.
A Biennale just for the Kids! Presented by Jet Airways, Singapore Biennale has worked together Little Art Bug Workshop to design an integrated programme to introduce Primary school children to this year’s theme of Wonder. Beginning in their classrooms, children will learn both art techniques and concepts inspired by the story of Alice in Wonderland and Singapore Biennale artists. Students complete their learning journey at Singapore Biennale with special activities that will help them relate what they have learnt to the best of international contemporary art. The Kids Biennale will showcase the best works and special projects by participating schools.
So far, more than 25 schools and 5000 students are already participating in this special initiative to rethink what art education means.
The Kids Biennale has four main components:
Alice in Wonderland Educational Curriculum
Art Competition (Free/Open Platform)
Windmill Day (Free/Open Platform)
On-site Kids Zone
Singapore Biennale is working with Little Art Bug Workshop to design a curriculum to introduce P1-6 students to a set of art skills & concepts through the story of Alice in Wonderland, ending in the showcase of the best works at the Kids Biennale. An on-the-spot art competition will be held on 20 September. A distinguished jury panel will then select the best works to be exhibited, with special prizes for top works. Schools will be directly invited at a later date to send their “art talents” to participate. Registration can be made from 2 June onwards.
Conceived by Little Art Bug Workshop as a mass community project, this is a large-scale public art installation of thousands of windmills created by Primary School students during the Singapore Biennale. The windmills will reflect their hopes and dreams, reminding us not to lose our sense of wonderment.
When Singapore Biennale kicks off in September, we will be buzzing with kids’ exhibitions, competitions and other activities such as Amazing Kids Race, workshops, doodling areas, Family Tours and Kids’ Day Out.
