The Great East Indiaman revisits Sir Stamford Raffles’ landing in 1819, which led to the founding of modern Singapore. The artist recasts the narrative as a fantastical tale of a mythical, now extinct species of whale that brought Raffles to these shores.
Finding Indiana is a hands on workshop beyond the usual conventional painting and drawing designed to explore some of the processes and modelling methods that go into the creation of The Great East Indiaman. Participants will get a chance to see physical sketchbooks and models from the conceptual stage to the planning stage of the sculpture and create their own 3 dimensional “vehicle” or anthropomorphic hybrid.
