| Film director Tan Pin Pin draws strongly from her personal experience and private memories, as well as the personalities she films. A consideration of locality is central to her artistic process. For Invisible City (2008), Tan interviewed people who document aspects of Singapore, showing the personal nature of their searches while offering crucial clues to Singapore’s collective memory and culture. For SB2011, Tan will present five short films along with selected footage from her archive that have not, or rarely, been screen in Singapore. Shown in the context of the Biennale, this selection clearly indicates her desire to work more directly, organically and experimentally with space and her subjects. The Impossibility of Knowing (2010) will have its Singapore premiere during the opening weekend of the Biennale. |
